Camp is about: unforgettable summers that will forever be joyously etched in each and every camper’s memory!

David Miskit discovered all these things about camp at an early age. His parents, Len and Mayda, were sleep-away camp owners and directors and David’s summers were always about camp. Their camp was the premier Maine girl’s camp called Waziyatah. David Miskit attended a nearby boy’s camp for many years until age 16, when he earned his American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate so that he could start working at his parents’ camp. In summers to come, David Miskit worked his way up the camp counselor staff ladder becoming Swim Director, Head of Waterfront and then upon his graduation from college joined his parents as the camp’s Associate Director.

In 1980 David’s parents retired and sold Camp Waziyatah. Utilizing the leadership, administrative and management skills learned during his years in camping, David Miskit took a vocational detour into a successful and rewarding career in both the nightclub and hotel industries.

Driven by his love for camping, in 1998 David Miskit returned to the camp business purchasing the renowned Kenmont camp for boys and Kenwood camp for girls in Kent, Connecticut. Applying the professional hospitality practices, standards and strategies learned during his hotel career, as well as re-defining the market niche of prospective camp families, David took these camps from a registration of 200 eight week campers to a registration of 900 four week campers and drove the tuition rate to a #1 ranking in the U.S.A. Kenmont and Kenwood became and remain recognized as America’s premier summer children’s camps.

During his 15 year tenure as Director and Owner of Kenmont and Kenwood, David Miskit has had the privilege of watching so many young campers grow before his eyes into young adults who would return to camp in their adult years as counselors and for whom their summers at camp will forever be the best summers of their lives.
